I found out long ago that the more time and energy we invest in prayer the more near and wonderful are the manifestations of God’s presence in the public religious services. While there are other factors, principally being wholehearted obedience to God and a strong, but simple faith in Him and His promises (as found in the Word of God), the amount and quality of prayer is the lifeline of true spiritual life in the public meetings. I have seen dry preaching turned into streams of living water in answer to prayer! I have seen cold formality turned into glorious liberty in the worship of our Lord and Savior in answer to prayer! I have seen the burdens and cares of the saints lifted and the deceitful accusations of the Devil swept away amidst the mighty outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit in answer to prayer! Deep, powerful conviction, true, heart-rending repentance, simple leaps of faith, genuine conversions, complete submission of the believer’s will to God, the entire sanctification of their hearts, and divine healing of body and souls... all these things and more come about when men, women, boys and girls truly pray! Remember that “The effectual, fervent Prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16b) True prayer is the one activity of the people of God that the Devil probably fears more than any other thing. When we truly pray, the windows of heaven are opened and all the promises of God are available to us! “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” (Jeremiah 33:3) "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."
