(Matthew 7:13, 14) Many are the objectors to the idea that there might only be one religion that is right and that can lead us safely to eternal life. Some seem to think that to believe such a thing is the height of bigotry and ignorance. I was recently asked about this while at work. The question went something like this: "Is Christianity the only religion by which we can go to Heaven?" Although, this was not necessarily meant to be a trick question, it is a tricky question. There are many people, claiming Christianity as their religion, who are not truly Christians. What I mean to say is that Christianity is not just another religion. It is a relationship with God and His Son, Jesus Christ. One Hindu brahmin said to a Christian that he believed there is but one main difference between Christianity and Hinduism. He said, "You have a Savior, we do not." While I disagree that this is the only main difference, I do agree that it is indeed one of them. The Savior of true Christians is Jesus Christ the Son of God. It is in knowing Him personally, by having a real relationship with Him, that we also have eternal life and a home in Heaven. In Jesus' prayer found in John chapter seventeen He said, And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (John 17:3). Here we see the unavoidable fact that if we would have eternal life we must not just know of Him, but we must know Him. When Jesus Christ becomes our personal Savior and we are "born again", we enter into a personal relationship with Him that is more real and meaningful than any other relationship we can have in this world. It is this relationship with Him that gives us spiritual and eternal life. If our relationship with Him is severed, we experience spiritual death. If we pass out of time into eternity and do not have this relationship with Him we will suffer eternal separation, the "second death" spoken of in Revelation (2:11; 20:6, 14; 21:8). Therefore, I would like to re-word the question: "Is a right relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only right way to have eternal life and to enter into Heaven?" The Biblical answer to this question is an absolute "YES". Jesus Christ is the One Who will be our Judge after we leave this world, and He said more than once that those who do not know Him at that time will have to depart from Him. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Matthew 7:22, 23) Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. (Luke 13:26, 27) Notice that in both of the above verses Jesus also classifies those who must depart from Him as "workers of iniquity". Sin separates us from God and will do so eternally if we are not saved from it. Jesus Christ alone can save us and separate us from sin in this life by a vital relationship with Him. It is not the religion of Christianity that will get us to Heaven, but Christ Himself. Do you know Him? Yours In Christ,nondisclosed_email@example.com (BibleNote Writer)Sun, 23 Aug 2015 23:44:26 +0000
