Overcoming Erroneous Training and Abuse -- or, Gaining a Proper Concept of our Heavenly Father

Overcoming Erroneous Training and Abuse -- or, Gaining a Proper Concept of our Heavenly Father

The personal experience and advice I give here to help people who might have had similar experiences. The format is a particular question and my attempt to answer. It is supposed that the reader is, or desires to be, a true Christian.

I have been plagued by an unhealthy dose of perfectionism my entire life. I have often felt that I can never be good enough no matter what I do. Thank God that He does NOT require perfection (as in infallibility). He does NOT require that we live free from mistakes. He wants our motives to be pure. This is what perfect love is about: the making of our hearts holy and pure.

Remember that the biblical idea of sin is most generally a wilful transgression of the known law of God.

One big and real problem we often have as humans is that our concept of God is not as accurate as it should be.

How Does One Overcome a Faulty Image of the Heavenly Father?

This is very much related to another question which was asked:

How Does One Overcome the Feelings of Not Being Good Enough for the Heavenly Father?

There are likely more steps or principles involved, but I share here some things I have learned so far. Do NOT think of this as a formula or a step-by-step process. It is what I have discovered on my journey. Your journey might be in a little different direction, but, hopefully, there will be some principles here that are helpful. I do not speak as a professional, nor as one who has mastered my own problems in this regard. It is only by the grace of God that I have overcome to the extent that I have been able to do so.

I. Acknowledging the Problem

The first step to truly overcoming almost anything with which we struggle is to admit the problem. It is okay to acknowledge to oneself "Yes, I struggle with a faulty image of God, because of abuse and/or bad example(s) in my life." Often it is a less-than-ideal father figure, but it could be any of several influential people in one's life.

1. Acknowledge the Pain -- Yes, it hurt at the time, and perhaps still does. It is okay to cry about it sometimes, or even as often as it takes to get it all cried out. You might have cried last month, or last year, and again you will find fresh tears spring from the fountain of pain again today, or tomorrow, or even next year.

2. Acknowledge the Wrongness -- Yes, wrong was committed. Yes, it gave me a false impression of what God is really like.

3. Acknowledge the Continuation of the Struggle -- Yes, to this day, however many months and years later, I am still negatively affected by the things that happened, the words that were spoken, the unrealistic expectations, and etc..

Especially when a strong influence in one's life (such as a father, mother, close relative, or pastor or teacher, etc.) has been instrumental in creating for us a wrong concept of God, I find that my mind and emotions have been thus wrongly trained to think and feel that God is this way (whatever the wrong way might be, ill-tempered, big bully in the sky, unloving, and etc...). The training, like the voices of my mother and father, constantly follows me around, trying to defeat me by interfering with my faith in the true Heavenly Father.

II. Forgive the Perpetrator(s)

In order to overcome, we must truly forgive those who have done us wrong, whether the hurts were real or imagined and whether the perpetrator (transgressor) ever asks for forgiveness or not. This is actually part of the process of our own repentance for sins we have committed. Jesus said that in order to be forgiven by our Heavenly Father, we must forgive others.

III. Seek to Know the True God

To overcome the false concept of God the Father, we need to learn what He is really like. The best thing to combat falsehood is truth!

I know that this sounds like a platitude or wishful thinking, or maybe like a naive Christian's one-answer-fits-all type of solution, but it is biblical. When God's Word says "Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you" it means what it says!

Before I got to know what my wife really is like, I had to spend time around her. Yes, we did get better acquainted before we got married, but we have become better acquainted across the years -- far more than those beginning stages in our relationship. It is similar with our relationship to God. The closer we walk to Him, the more often we visit with Him in prayer, the more of His love letter(s) we read (the Bible), and the more we experience of His presence and interaction in our lives the better we get to know Him!

This might sound simplistic, but it helps me to focus on the basic principles of Christian living. The song, Trust and Obey comes to mind. I am going to emphasize three things.

1. Bible Study

I mean search the Scriptures and apply specific truths -- seeking for the Holy Spirit's guidance in the matter. It is especially helpful to me to focus on the promises of God and passages which tell about all His wonderful characteristics. God's love for His people Israel throughout the Old Testament also help me to see His fatherly characteristics.

If He has not already done so, let the Holy Spirit lead you through the chapters of John from 14 through 17. There you will see how important it is to let the Holy Spirit reveal Jesus Christ to your heart and mind. When He gives us glimpses of the true revelation of Himself to our spiritual sight, we then gain a better concept of Who He is and who we are.

2. Prayer

There is nothing like talking to God and talking with God in prayer. People say to talk to Him like He is your best friend, but He is so much more than that. Armed with the truths about Him and His promises to you, call upon His name in prayer. He loves to hear His children call for help.

Pray specifically and pray as God's Word has shown the way. Ask for the wisdom which is from above and ask for the things which are His will. Ask in faith, nothing wavering. There are things that are His will and other things which are not. I often think that the "voices in my head" (the false training about what God is like) and allergies might just be my "thorn(s) in the flesh", but God knows. I have yet to hear Him say either way.

Recently I have come to realize that I just do NOT know how to pray. However, if I will just lay my heart open before God in humility and seek His face, His Holy Spirit and Jesus, the Great Intercessor can lead and pray on my behalf.

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Rom 8:26-28)

3. Good Christian Books

There are many good books out there that have helped me with my own struggles in this area. The following titles have all been very helpful to me:

One is Impressions, by Martin Wells Knapp. At first thought that might not seem right, but really, what are these "voices in our heads" or wrong training, but very much like impressions. The devil often uses wrong thoughts and wrong concepts very similar to impressions -- and impressions are often associated with our emotions. Our emotions are very much involved here.

Another is Holiness and the Human Element, by H. A. Baldwin. This is an excellent book from a holiness perspective for understanding our sanctified human nature.

Our Own God, by G. D. Watson is very good for helping to see what God is really is like.

Knowledge of the Holy, by A. W. Tozer. This is another good book to help us learn the character of God.

Healing for Damaged Emotions, by David Seamands. This one I recommend only with a little caveat: be careful to follow God's Word first. Here is a critique of that book: "DAMAGED" EMOTIONS: "HEALING" OR HOLINESS? (a Critique of Healing for Damaged Emotions)
For those who believe in holiness and holy living, it might be helpful in conjunction with a reading of Healing for Damaged Emotions.

I quote from the end of the critique above:

quote:

As God allows or even ordains your suffering, one of His purposes is to enable you to become a testimony to others of His power, and to offer the kind of comfort and help that you have received. Some of this writing may seem harsh in its focus on facing one's own sin, and focusing away from the hurts imposed by others. However, what I strongly recommend is taking the time to counsel and disciple those who are struggling, and to do so on the basis of God's Word, not the speculations of unbelievers.
Seamands, along with a host of others, has taken the precious truths of Scripture and muddied them by adding the ideas of pagans. This is a grave disservice to persons who are already having severe difficulties with life. It is my hope to prepare an entire volume on the issue of responding to abuse suffered in childhood. This is one of several papers written to assist in the research that is required to cover the territory adequately. God has given us "everything we need for life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3) through our knowledge of Jesus Christ. His revelation is sufficient, and it offers a glorious hope and comfort that infinitely surpasses the counterfeits of man's wisdom. Don't be deceived into believing that you need something "more" than what God Himself has given in His Word. You may need godly counsel from a pastor or another mature believer, but what you do not need is to entangle God's wisdom with the teachings of ungodly men like Freud, Jung, Ellis, Adler, Maslow, and the like. The power of Jesus Christ really, truly is enough!

Just remember that the writers of these books are fallible and the Bible is our ultimate source of infallible truth.

IV. Christian Counseling (or a Christian Mentor, or pastor, or even a close Christian relative or friend)

Here I do not necessarily mean a professional Christian counselor, though I am not against it per se. What I mean is find someone you really believe in (a good pastor, or a wise saint with many years in the Lord) whom you believe you can trust to keep confidentiality. Often, it is good to have someone who is more or less objective who can take the time to listen and help you talk things out.

For me, I have times when I am able to tell my wife things. I have sometimes just blurted something out that had hurt me for years, and I did not realize how much.

Ultimately, God is the God of all comfort! I believe He is able to help us overcome no matter what the struggle. Yes, I even believe He can deliver us out of the deep pit of depression. I have been so delivered from that pit at times in my life. Once, I was sorely tempted to commit suicide, but I looked unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of my faith. He calmed my storm-tossed sea and gave me enduring peace within!

Remember Simon Peter when he walked on the water to go to Jesus, Who already was walking on the water. Peter got his eyes off of Jesus and began to sink. "Lord, save me!" he cried, and Jesus did! "Wherefore didst thou doubt?" Jesus did NOT condemn, but He encouraged and lifted His disciples to go from "Strength to strength in Zion"!

Re: Overcoming Erroneous Training and Abuse -- or, Gaining a Proper Concept of our Heavenly Father

I soon plan to address more specifically the matter of “not feeling good enough for the Heavenly Father”.

I wish to reword it a little: Our Unworthiness of the Heavenly Father

Some early thoughts:

God’s Fatherhood of Man

The Prodigal Nature of Man’s Sin

Our Elder Brother, Jesus ChrIst

The Father’s Nature and Attitude Towards Man
— the meaning of mercy, love, and grace

Our Acceptance in the Beloved!

God’s Glory and Our Good

EDIT: I have taken the above ideas and used them to form a six-part outline for a series on this subject. See the replies below for progress being made on them. I have posted many passages from the Scriptures to give some basis of what is to be addressed under each topic.

Re: Overcoming Erroneous Training and Abuse -- or, Gaining a Proper Concept of our Heavenly Father

I posted this on Facebook this morning:

While thinking of what I could write to help someone who has “feelings of not being good enough for the Heavenly Father”, I have become overwhelmed with how much God the Father truly loves each and every one of us and how undeserving we are of Him.

Dear people, God’s mercy, love, and grace are all freely given to us. All of His wonderful gifts of salvation, acceptance, healing, fulfillment in His will, eternal life, and etc. are freely offered to us if we will trust Jesus Christ, Who gave Himself for us!

His redemption plan, His atonement for our sins, and His gracious acceptance of our souls on the merits of Jesus Christ His only begotten Son are all the Lord’s doings — and it is marvelous in our eyes!

We bring our nothingness, our brokenness, our sinfulness, our inadequacies, our unworthy selves, and lay it all at Jesus’ feet. Then, He, by Whom God made all things (including us!), with His loving, all-powerful, nail-pierced Hands takes what was worthy of rejection, wrath, and judgement and He makes it over anew in His own image!

I cannot bear this truth alone! I must share it with all the world!

May God bless each one who reads, likes, and shares my feeble attempt to describe the indescribable!

Amen!

Our Unworthiness (Part 1) and The Fatherhood of God

Our Unworthiness (Part 1) and The Fatherhood of God

quote:

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
(Genesis 1:26-27)

quote:

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
(Genesis 3:7-9)

God, our Heavenly Father, is a Father to us by creating us. We were specially created in His image. Thus we are children of God by creation!

In man's innocence, before sin entered into his heart, he was holy. After he chose to sin, his nature became fallen. This means, that even though there is still a moral nature and many things in man that are like God's nature, man is no longer holy. However, we are still God's children by creation. He is still the Heavenly Father and wants to have a relationship with us.

God saw your fall and my fall in Adam before it happened. God knew Adam would fall. God knew all the sinful desires and actual committed sins with which each and every one of us would dishonor Him. He knew how we would mess up our lives, and yet He still created us!

God does indeed hate sin. Also, being the just Judge of the entire created universe, He will have to punish sin and evil doers. BUT, He had a plan in mind BEFORE He began to create mankind. The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world"! (Revelation 13:8b)

God created us with the free will to choose Him or to choose sin, because He wanted us to serve Him out of love. Yes, He could have created a world filled with robots which have no choice but to do what they were made to do, but He wanted us to be able to love Him by choice.

God is NOT surprised by any or all of the wickedness that you and I have done, nor by all the dark depths of our wretched fallen hearts and minds. He saw it all before it happened!

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings." (Jeremiah 17:9-10)

BUT, with His great redemption plan, He provided Himself a Lamb (Genesis 22:8) by which we could not only be forgiven and reconciled to Him as His children, BUT ALSO that we might be once again made really and truly clean and holy through the blood of the Lamb!

It is by this sacrifice, and the wonderful new birth experience, being "born from above" that we become proper spiritual children of the Heavenly Father. Even though children by creation, we thus become children by redemption as well -- the new creation! We are made like unto His Son, Jesus Christ, Who died for us. By this means, God restores His likeness in our souls!

Of course, we do NOT deserve this! Of course, we are NOT good enough to earn our way into this relationship, but the Lamb of God IS! God's plan is perfect and marvelous! He sees the value in our relationship with Him AND He sees all that we CAN BE by His grace! AND, He wants this relationship with us to last throughout eternity!

Our Unworthiness (Part 2) and the Prodigal Nature of Man's Sin

Our Unworthiness (Part 2) and the Prodigal Nature of Man's Sin

quote:

And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
(Luke 15:12-14)

quote:

Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
(Isa 59:1-2)

"All" of us "have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23). Just like Adam and Eve hid themselves in the Garden of Eden after they committed the first sin, by which they and the whole human race fell into a sinful, broken condition, even so we now, apart from the grace of God, seek to hide from God. He is holy and we are sinful. He is righteous and just and we are guilty. He is the Heavenly Father, are we are His prodigal, runaway children.

Sin separates us from God. Our sinfulness prevents us from entering into His holy presence. IF we come before God in our sinful condition, He, being just and holy, and being the Judge of all of us, must punish us for our sins. Sin is exceeding sinful! It hurts us, it hurts others, and it hurts God!

People today say that they want things to be fair and just. We often say that life is not fair, but the answer is more profound than that. IF we got what we really deserved, our sins would require that we suffer in Hell.

Furthermore, our sinful condition makes us uncomfortable around God and His holiness. Without God's grace we tend to go away from Him. We want nothing to do with God.

Like the story Jesus told, which we call "The Prodigal Son", we have gone far from our Heavenly Father's house. We have broken His heart, sinned against Him, and squandered the opportunities He gave us.

Yet, like the son in that story, we can return to God. He made the way through Jesus Christ's sacrifice of Himself for our sins. I will just quote here that part of the story:

quote:

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
(Luke 15:17-24)

This is how our Heavenly Father treats us when we truly repent of our sins and trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior! We say to God, "I am no more worthy to be called thy son" (or daughter), and He still welcomes us home and treats us as His OWN dear, beloved children! There is more rejoicing in Heaven over one sinner that repents than there is over ninety-nine just persons which do not need to repent. (Luke 15:7)

Now, I ask you, the reader a question. Think about it very seriously. Since God is so forgiving and accepting of those of us who have committed all sorts of sins (real, terrible sins!) against Him, do you think He would consider us any less worthy of Him because other people have not accepted us? Will He be less accepting of us because we do not feel like we deserve Him?

Regardless of our feelings of worthlessness and regardless of other people's opinions of us, and even of our own opinions, God, the Heavenly Father RUNS to meet us! He spares no expense to celebrate our attendance at His table. He values each and every one of us far more than we can realize during our short lifespan. I believe it is going to take much time in eternity for us to come to a full understanding of what God has planned for us. Some of the most useful people here on earth will be capable of so much more in the world to come. Even so, those of us who feel that we are not very useful, God will certainly make us productive members in that eternal abode!

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."
(Psalm 23:6)

Our real value is NOT based upon how we feel about ourselves, but rather what God says and does concerning us. Being made worthy through Jesus Christ, we become part of His family. Our Heavenly Father will move all of Heaven and earth to prove His love for us. It is His love that defines our value! What wonderful love!

Our Unworthiness (Part 3) and Our Elder Brother, Jesus Christ

Our Unworthiness (Part 3) and Our Elder Brother, Jesus Christ

quote:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
(John 3:16-17)

quote:

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
(1John 4:10)

quote:

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
(Romans 6:23)

I have already mentioned about God’s plan to redeem and fully restore mankind through Jesus Christ, but here I wish to focus primarily on Jesus Christ and what He means to us. Throughout the entire Old and New Testaments of the Bible Jesus Christ and His great salvation is the main and resounding theme. In this one topic I cannot delve deeply into all this means for us, but I intend to help us to focus on some of the ways in which Jesus Christ proves and fulfills the value of the individual before the Heavenly Father.

Our Unworthiness (Part 4) and God's Nature and Attitude Towards Man

Our Unworthiness (Part 4) and God's Nature and Attitude Towards Man
-- The Meaning of Mercy, Love, and Grace!

quote:

It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
(Lamentations 3:22-25)

quote:

To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
(Luke 1:77-78)

quote:

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
(Micah 7:18-19)

quote:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
(1Peter 1:3-5)

quote:

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
(Romans 5:1-8)

quote:

For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
(Romans 5:17-21)

Our Unworthiness (Part 5) and Our Acceptance in the Beloved

Our Unworthiness (Part 5) and Our Acceptance in the Beloved

quote:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
(Ephesians 1:3-7)

quote:

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
(Acts 10:34-35)

quote:

Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause. For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
(2Corinthians 5:9-21)

Re: Our Unworthiness (Part 6) and Our Acceptance in the Beloved

Our Unworthiness (Part 6) -- God's Glory and Our Good!

quote:

Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
(Ephesians 1:9-14)

quote:

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
(Ephesians 2:19-22)

quote:

For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
(Ephesians 3:1-21)

Re: Overcoming Erroneous Training and Abuse -- or, Gaining a Proper Concept of our Heavenly Father

I just posted some commentary on part 1 of this little series. It is in the reply entitled "Our Unworthiness (Part 1) and the Fatherhood of God".
